Darling Nephews first Birthday card

Decided to go back to my card making roots today and make a decoupage card for my nephews first birthday. The backing paper and elephant decoupage are from Design House. Simple but cute all the same.

Celery - a love hate relationship

Having spent the last 50 years detesting celery - I cannot stand the smell, texture or taste and have to admit to throwing out a mini mountain of it over the years. I decided I would no longer throw food out and invested in a soup maker. Well, I had a box of vegetables delivered on Christmas Eve and there was the hated celery, needless to say it went in the back of the fridge. Yesterday, I decided to face my demons and either throw it out or cook with it. I removed the sad limp excuse for celery from the fridge and made a soup with it. Now imagine my amazement to discover on tasting the soup that not only did I like it but it was absolutely delicious and is definitely my favourite soup. Why has it taken me 50 years to discover how delicious celery soup is??! Anyway for any fellow celery haters out there, here is the recipe I used in case you fancy trying it :-)

Ingredients

1 head of celery sliced
1 large onion chopped
1 clove garlic chopped
Good pinch of nutmeg
Pepper
1 litre of Veg stock (I used 3 veg oxo cubes in 1 litre of boiling water)
Approx 5fl oz Double cream (single would be fine, just happened I was using up leftovers)

Method

Place all ingredients (except cream) into soupmaker, set to smooth mode, 20 mins or so later soup is ready, just stir in the cream and enjoy.

Blogging and new adventures

Steve's at work, so I have spent the evening trying to work my way round blogger and my head around some of the things I would like to achieve in 2014. So many ideas, such a chaotic mind, lol perhaps blogging will be a good way to bring some order to it. Have seen this idea on Pinterest and my daughter tagged me in it on fb earlier, what a lovely idea, definitely something I shall be doing this year.  A great way to count your blessings! 2013 bought us our first beautiful grandchild so 2014 has a lot to live up to :-)

Good things jar
